'Property of God' line an inspiration for Icuss
By PAUL GIANNAMORE Hearld Star Business editor
A NEW IDEA -- Leslie Icuss stands next to the display of "Property of God" jewelry in her family's business, Legal Hair and Day Spa on Sunset Boulevard. The simple message of the jewelry, "Property of God -- If lost, please return," carries the hope that wearers will be inspired, uplifted, reminded and motivated to share their ability to help others, Icuss said.
STEUBENVILLE -- For years, Leslie Icuss has been part of a business that can beautify people. Hair color, makeup, manicures, spa treatments are all part of the experience at Legal Hair and Day Spa on Sunset Boulevard. Her new venture sets out to remind people that their souls are beautiful, too, in a simple, elegant way, launching just in time for the holiday shopping season. "Property of God" is the new jewelry line with a simple message that grew out of Icuss' thoughts about tatoos. Icuss recounts that she and husband Chip had told their daughters they couldn't get tatoos until they finished college -- which they both promptly did. Leslie said she liked the tatoos and started thinking about maybe getting one. It was during one of her regular walks at Mount Calvary Cemetery that the inspiration hit her. "I thought the only thing I would want on my body was 'Property of God,' and I was inspired to add, 'if lost, please return.'"
That simple idea,
"Property of God -- If lost, please return" has become a line of bracelets and pendants for men and women, which Icuss said she hopes serve as a reminder to those wearing the jewelry. "I have great friends who pray with me, and when I am in trouble, someone always is there to reach out and share something from their life," she said. "The message is so simple. We are all lost at times. Sometimes, one thing we say to someone else can make all the difference." Icuss is hoping the holiday season will be a good launch time for the "Property of God" line.
The jewelry is available through a Web site, www.propertyofgod.net, and soon will be available in catalogues and through TV home shopping. Icuss has signed on with a New York firm that will have marketing rights, including possible placement on a TV home shopping channel in addition to national catalogues. Icuss also is having representatives market the materials, in addition to the Web site. "This is a whole different field for me," she said. "My life is full and I never wanted another business." But "Property of God" is more than just a business to sell jewelry. Icuss hopes the Web site becomes a place that sets examples and inspires people to connect in the way she wants the jewelryás message to inspire the wearer. The Web site includes a place for people to post their own stories of inspiration. "I want people share the message," she said. "There is only one God and it's not about religion," she said. "I'm not religious but we all strive to do our best while weáre here. At the times when we're not our best you can help others by telling them what helped you. That's what I want it to be all about, connecting with other people." On a more nuts-and-bolts production level, Icuss did research after coming up with the concept to find a manufacturer. She said she couldn't find an American manufacturer, but she is encouraged that the New York firm can have the items produced in the United States. She has registered the "Property of God" logo as a trademark.

|   Posted by ~ Lesie Icuss | What all started
out as my middle age desire to be cool, I never intended it to become anything.
My two daughters were not allowed to get tattoos until they finished college
and were supporting themselves. So, after completing college, they very
promptly went together and had dainty stars tattooed upon their feet. I sort of
liked it. I began contemplating what would make me finally break down and get a
tattoo. The only thing that came to mind that I would want on my body for
the rest of my life, even after wrinkles, was “Property of God “. I
was inspired to add, “If Lost Please Return “I knew immediately I
had been given a gift, an inspiration. The message is so simple, yet so divine.
When I lay my eyes
on my granddaughter, I see the preciousness of her soul. When I send my
children out into the world, I hope that I have given them the tools they need
to survive and succeed. I never know what they will face. My intention with
this jewelry line that was created as a result of this inspiration is to
encourage people to reach out and help each other. We are all on the
same journey and our destination is to return to God. We are all Property of
God, We all carry the spirit, as a reminder, we can wear the
message.
My vision is to
create a reminder that spreads the message that we all become lost and
separated at times, but that by helping one another we can find our way home.

| | Posted by ~ Ashlee age 11 | I've had some crazy experiences. In the month of August, something bad had happened. My Uncle Ryant was shot to death. I was eleven years old. It happened in Pittsburgh on a dark night. He died when he was only twenty years old. That morning, moments after getting off the phone with my dad, my mom had told me what happened. When she started to cry, I felt tears running down my face. My mom and I raced to my dad's house. I felt that if I gave hugs they would feel better. I learned that day that things will get better sometime, no matter what it is. He was an important person that I needed in my life. He was there for me every holiday and every sport I was in. He would make sure I got what I needed no matter what is. So I lost a very important person that morning. Five days later, I got a gift. I got a baby sister named Arya. She was born at Trinity Hospital. Most of my family were there, like my dad, my grandpas' and grandmas' , my uncle, and of course my baby sister and her mother. It was a very happy morning for me. That morning I realized a gift will come if you really believe and hope for one. So August was the month I learned a lot of things and I will never forget them.
